Job Title: Education and Public Programs Assistant

Part time/Casual: 12 – 18 hours per week (2 to 3 days per week)
Wage: $13.50 per hour

Position Start/End Dates: September 2016 – June 2017

The Kelowna Art Gallery is now accepting applications for a part-time education and public programs assistant. This position will play a key role in helping to coordinate the Gallery’s school tour program, which runs up to three tours per day, from September to June, Monday through Friday. This position is an opportunity to build on experience working with children and youth and expand your knowledge of the visual arts.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the public programming coordinator, the education and public programs assistant will support the Gallery’s school tour program by:
◦ Assisting public programming coordinator with training school tour volunteers
◦ Leading interactive tours of the current exhibitions
◦ Facilitating hands-on art activities
◦ Overseeing school tour volunteers/docents
◦ Daily organizing, cleaning, and preparing supplies

The ideal candidate possesses the following qualities, knowledge and experience:
◦ A university degree in visual arts, art history, education, or another related field
◦ Experience in a museum, gallery, or teaching context dealing with front-line tasks and working with the public
◦ Knowledge of art history and contemporary art
◦ Enjoys working with people and children in a social learning environment
◦ Excellent customer-service skills
◦ Ability to be courteous at all times and in all circumstances
◦ Be dynamic, proactive, and outgoing
◦ Ability to provide a recent and valid police background check
