ELL/EAL Teaching and Learning in Multilingual Classrooms: Part One
Participants in this 12-hour series of professional development seminars will consider transformative and impactful ways to work with English language learners (ELL) or English as an additional language (EAL) learners in school settings. With an overview of the mechanics of ELL/EAL teaching and learning, additional language learning theory, and key classroom supports for ELL/EAL learners, participants will come away with concrete ideas to incorporate into their teaching practice.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this professional development seminar, participants will be able to:
- Create welcoming environments for ELL/EAL learners
- Understand factors that contribute to additional language learning
- Develop strategies to support ELL/EAL learners that benefit all students
- Support ELL/EAL learners from varying linguistic backgrounds
- Foster key language skills development for ELL/EAL learners
- Provide effective feedback and assessment to ELL/EAL learners
- Employ a variety of teaching methods to meet the needs of ELL/EAL learners
- Apply relevant additional language acquisition theory to teaching and learning
- Align ELL/EAL teaching and learning with the First Peoples Principles of Learning
- Reflect on their particular teaching and learning contexts in relation to these seminars

Course Cost
The cost for this six-week non-credit course is $260.
