Innovative Learning Centre hosts Kelowna’s second Design Jam
The second ever Design Jam is scheduled for October 25, 2014 in the UBC Okanagan’s Innovative Learning Centre
The community of Okanagan is invited to join a day which brings together design and hack culture to solve a secret challenge based on a relevant, real problem in the community.
Participants, based on their skills and aspirations for the event, will be partnered with a team to work towards a design solution. Each team, supported by local design mentors with design-thinking, project management, and human-computer interaction, will learn through experimentation and collaboration.
The ideas generated from the challenge will be summarized and released online under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) license —meaning anyone can use ideas generated at the Design Jam, as long as they credit the original authors.
Event organizer Shane Austin and founder of Okanagan’s co+LAB comments that the Design Jam is a great avenue for designers and design thinkers to meet and work with other people.
“We are excited to create a meaningful space for our attendees to break out their problem-solving tools and address a real user experience problem,” says Austin.
“This second edition of Design Jam offers us a unique opportunity to partner with UBC Okanagan campus and its Innovative Learning Centre to tackle a challenge that is prevalent in society and complex in nature.”
Registration fees are $5 for students and $15 for general participants.
