Visiting PhD Candidate Brown Onguko presents
A Whole School Improvement in a Challenging Context
Brown’s presentation focused on implementation of three projects in his doctoral research school. Situated in a rural part of western Kenya, Brown’s research presented a challenging educational context. The three projects were:
- implementation of a STEM curriculum project between Lumbwa Primary School in Kenya and University Elementary School in Calgary;
- enabling safe water by providing biosand water filters to the School in Kenya; and
- teachers’ professional development through blended learning on appropriate technologies operated on solar energy.
This presentation focused on Brown’s third project.. He engaged his audience with a video from his fieldwork and explained the challenges student face to come to school each day including carrying their water jugs to classes.
Brown Onguko is currently a visiting doctoral candidate in educational technology from the University of Calgary at the UBC’s Okanagan campus. He is a lecturer at the Aga Khan University, Institute for Educational Development, Eastern Africa.
