Description

The purpose of this capstone project is the translation of the Science of Reading to classroom practice in a French Immersion (FI) context. This paper reviews the literature on the Science of Reading, highlights research conducted in FI contexts, and provides instructional strategies for the development of phonemic awareness, phonics, and vocabulary and morphology to support early literacy development in FI classrooms. This paper was the basis on which the author developed a professional development seminar. An overview of this workshop is included, as well as a year plan for literacy instruction in FI kindergarten.
