Description

Being a reflective inquiry, this study was done through the integration of a coaching program into curriculum as a way of self-discovery and promoting well-being of international students in the context of an EAP Level 4 Listening & Speaking program in a higher education institution in Canada. The implemented program explored the potential of coaching integrated into the curriculum to address the First Peoples Principles of Learning; some psychosocial issues in today’s world, such as apathy, alienation, and disconnect; and the 21st century learning skills, such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills. With this exploration the study aimed to support the international students in their transition into a new academic, social, and cultural setting. Incorporating 11 students from three Asian countries, the study showed that coaching can be an effective support system in the academic and social integration of international students, and students can adopt lifelong skills through the scaffolding of coaching by gaining self-awareness and taking the ownership of their lives.
