Position Description
Field Expereince Students joining the WWEST/iSTAND team, directed by Dr. Jennifer Jakobi, will have the opportunity to apply their education skills, with teachers and K-12 students, in classrooms across the Kelowna region. The first few days of the field experience will be used to become familiar with the WWEST/iSTAND program goals and Education team, as well as learn how to deliver the WWEST/iSTAND STEM lessons. The majority of the field experience will take place in various schools in the Kelowna (possibly Vernon) school district where there will be mentored and independent delivery of STEM lessons in classroom environments. This opportunity is a fantastic bridge in becoming independent in curriculum delivery to varied audiences, and the skills attained while in previous practicums within the Education Degree at UBC. Our team of educators will mentor and scaffold lesson development and delivery as much as the field experience participant requires or requests. There will be Intergenerational events also occurring at the same time, of which, the student participants would be welcome to attend and lead. The field experience will run Monday through Friday, with Tuesday-Thursday being in schools and Mondays and Fridays used for lesson planning and preparation. Hours will vary based on the schools being attended, and will be agreed upon by the field experience participant and the WWEST Program Manager. All supplies and mileage for personal vehicle use to assigned schools will be provided by WWEST/iSTAND. There may be potential for travel to other communities within BC, and travel expenses will be covered by WWEST/iSTAND.
