Literacy Research & Resource Development

Location(s): Kelowna
Expected Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9am-5pm, Tuesday and Thursdays 11am-7pm. The schedule can be flexible based on students' availability as some of the research can be done remotely and online.

Position Description

Students will assist with researching and creating literacy tools, games, and resources that can be used by families and volunteers at home and in school both in Canada and Uganda to further literacy levels in children and parents (example creating alphabet tiles from bottle cap lids). Students will assist with researching global literacy facts, best practices, and trends. Students will assist with sorting gently used books to be shipped to NITEO partners in Uganda. Students will assist as Reading Mentors with the spring session of NITEO’s Family Reading Program.

NITEO exists to support young readers to develop the literacy skills needed to build bright and hopeful futures. We do this globally: through supplying community libraries with books and trainings in Uganda; and locally: through our Family Reading Program for newcomer families in Kelowna.
