Theme: Early Childhood Education
Age Group: Early Years
In this three week placement you will be immersed in daily practice alongside Early Childhood Educators Kate, Keandra, and Patty. You will experience first-hand methods of guiding young children in an early learning program, and ultimately design and implement 1 to 8 (depending on scope) fun and engaging activities to deliver curriculum linking to the BC Early Learning Framework. In practice, you’ll find different ways to engage a large group, redirect behaviors, comfort, and support children in their learning about the world around them. As you get a feel for the program, we suggest you draw from your specific skills/knowledge and interests to fuel your project’s design.

The Clubhouse at Cottonwoods provides a full day early learning program for 1 to 5 year old children. We operate Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 5:30pm. This program is held in Cottonwoods Care Facility and is our intergenerational program: Typically, we interact with the residents of Cottonwoods Care Facility, but during Covid-19, our interaction with the Grandmas and Grampas is limited to through the windows. We visit the Clubhouse Farm or Treehouse Preschool on weekly field trips. The ideal platform for early learning education promotes the emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of each child. This development is best nurtured through play, music, stories, games, art, and access to nature. Dedicated, caring educators offer a child-centred foundation: through kind example and loving care, we emphasize appropriate behaviour and problem solving skills. Skill advancement and school readiness are achieved through these key concepts used to encourage the growth and development of all our children.
