Position Description
Student teachers will work with SWIS (Settlement Workers in Schools), school staff, students, families and community partners. Students will engage in a variety of activities, and gain not only valuable hands-on experience but also contribute significantly to the well-being and integration of newcomer students and their families. Here are just a few examples of how student teachers can support SWIS workers during their practicum:
- Lunch and After-School Activities
- Participate and Support in Organizing Cultural Events
- Work with Settlement Workers to Support Students and Families
- Collaborate with English Language Learner (ELL) Teachers
- Support Student Newcomers During Unstructured Time at School
By participating in these activities, student teachers not only enhance their own professional development but also make a meaningful difference in the lives of newcomer students. Their involvement will help create a welcoming and supportive school environment where all students can thrive.
