Research Assistant: Whole-School Wellbeing Project

Hours: 6-10 hrs/Week (negotiable)
Salary: $25.00 an hour 

Location: UBC Okanagan Campus, this is an online role with some in-person meetings 

 

Description 

With the guidance of the project coordinator, the responsibilities of this position will be directly related to the activities regarding the Whole School Wellbeing research project – exploring sustainable approaches to whole-school wellbeing. The position involves supporting the research activities and outputs in examining community-responsive learning cultures, led by Prof. Sabre Cherkowski, Okanagan School of Education. Organizational Status 

This position will interact with members of the research team and is expected to report to the project coordinator and research team. 

Work Performed 

The RA will: 

  • Attend meetings and support the conduct of research. 
  • Assist with routine tasks associated with meetings, content development, data collection, organization, and needed preparation. 
  • Transcribe data (field notes, observations, reflections, interviews, etc). 
  • Perform editorial and proofing reviews of draft book chapters and manuscripts. 
  • Conduct qualitative data analysis (training will be provided). 
  • Other related duties as required. 

 

Supervision Received 

Works under the direct supervision of the Lead Researcher and project coordinator in accordance with detailed oral or written instructions; routine duties are carried out under general supervision. 

Supervision Given 

None but may explain work sequences to others. 

Consequence of Error/Judgement 

This position will work within a highly interactive research team, and work will be checked and reviewed regularly. This person will know how to prioritize the tasks at hand and ensure that all of them are completed over a reasonable time frame. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Enrolled in Master’s or PhD level program at UBC 

Skills you bring 

Strong communication/interpersonal skills. Good organizational skills and a strong ability to incorporate feedback quickly and effectively into your work. Working knowledge of computer applications for word processing and spreadsheets, as well as Internet browsers, email and messaging applications. Must be able to work both independently and within a team environment. A theoretical background and understanding of educational and/or social studies is desirable.

  • Skilled Use of Research Tools: Develop proficiency in using Zotero reference manager, NVivo, and other research applications. 
  • Team Collaboration: Enhance teamwork skills through active participation in collaborative research activities. 
  • Community-Responsive Education: Gain experience with community-responsive education and research methodologies. 
  • Data Analysis: Improve skills in qualitative and quantitative data analysis. 
  • Communication: Strengthen written and verbal communication skills.
