Position Description

RCA Instructor Orientation Training Program inclusion for Artists Instructor and Educators

Role of UBCO Education Student: The student would be expected to develop training program to support RCA instructors in developing skills when working with children and youth with exceptionalities.

The RCA is seeking to streamline training for all performing and visual arts instructors. The focus is to support and assist instructors to develop their facilitation skills so they may create a supportive and inclusive program environment.

With the intention to meet various group dynamics and learning styles. The student would be required to research and understand the needs of new instructors at RCA. To create a comprehensive guide to help instructors develop teaching and facilitation skills to adapt programs to meet various developmental needs and interested of participants.

Tasks

  • Develop on four hours training orientation course: Information learning styles and teaching practices if inclusion within the RCA art programming.
  • The Orientation course will include Teaching Strategies: Best practices, guidelines, and strategies specific to teaching in the arts.
  • The orientation will be in collaboration with the RCA program coordinator and instructors to gain insight and prioritize content and presentation.

Orientation Program Delivery:

  • Workshops and Interactive Sessions: Hands-on activities that allow artist- educators to learn and develop practical teaching techniques to extend in inclusive programming.
  • Resource Packet: A comprehensive guidebook or digital resource that includes lesson planning templates, inclusion protocol and adaptive programming.

Outcomes: A finished orientation program handbook that can be used as a resource for all new arts instructors at RCA. It should be practical, easy to navigate, and filled with relevant content that helps instructors quickly get acclimated to their roles. By the end of this orientation program, instructors will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to effectively facilitate arts education program in a inclusive setting.
