Location: Kelowna
Age Group: Early Years, Elementary, and Secondary
Position Description
The Child & Youth Department offers a variety of active and engaging programming for children ages 6 weeks – 15 years of age. A teacher candidate can work in any programs in their target age /subject interest, as well as create curriculum for upcoming camps and programs. The candidate can create lessons to implement into our existing programs, or chose to lead portions of our developed programs (with guidance). Our programs are wide-reaching and include Childminding, Active Arts, Girls Unite, Boys In Action, Y Not Build It, Active Kids, Y Basketball, Dance, Tennis, Karate, Camps and much more. We are inclusive and design programming that accommodates all children so it’s a great opportunity to meet a variety of children and learn effective strategies to use with children in a recreation setting.
Teacher candidates who chose this practicum can design an experience that works for their future goals in working with children. Because we have a variety of programs and ages, candidates can try out a variety, or focus specifically on one age group/area to increase their skill base. The diversity of children that come to the Y really makes for a very rich inclusive experience and we are excited to be a community partner who can provide a great experience to a future educator.
