Graduate Academic Assistant (GAA) – Graduate Student Support Lead

An average of 2 hours per week over the duration of the appointment is expected.
Compensation Amount
$250 per month
Supervisory Organization
The GAA will report to the Communications Manager and may receive direction from the Director, Graduate Programs. The GAA will be required to participate in monthly check-in meetings with the School’s Graduate Program Committee (including reporting outcomes achieved).
The GAA will work largely independently. It is expected that work hours may vary over the duration of the appointment according to meet program needs (e.g., increased time during recruitment). The schedule for this work, however, is flexible and will be determined by the supervisors in consultation with the GAA.

Work Performed
– Supports marketing initiatives for graduate programs in the Okanagan School of Education, specifically storytelling and messaging.
– Captures and communicates the students’ journeys by creating engaging social media and website content.
– Develops and/or supports social media from the perspective of a graduate student while following brand guidelines.
– Develops and supports engagement events and outreach activities for prospective and admitted students.
– Serves as a graduate student ambassador
– Serves as the Education graduate student representative on the Graduate Student Advisory Council (GSAC). (meetings are once per month and hybrid. Full details available at Graduate Student Advisory Council)
– Other related duties as assigned and through discussion
Minimum Qualifications
• Must be a registered student in good standing in a Graduate Program within the Okanagan School of Education, including Master of Arts in Education, Master of Education, Doctor of Education or PhD in IGS under the supervision of an Education faculty member.
• Must have experience managing social media channels and be a demonstrated regular user of social media (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.)
• Must be comfortable being in front of a camera (including photos and video) and on social media
• Must be available to attend the School’s Graduate Program Committee meetings (GPC meetings are the third Wednesday of every month from 10:30am-12pm) and the Graduate Student Advisory Council meetings (monthly).
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience demonstrating reliability and a strong ability to take ownership.
• Experience demonstrating good judgment and initiative.
• An interest in shaping grad programs for future students, beyond one’s own personal experience.
• Have more than one year of study remaining in their program
